News from Kluut up the Rias

26 July 2002

Made it to Bayona without the aid of a bucket. HOORAH! This place is  fantastic. Very oldy worldy with quaint narrow streets and lots of  atmosphere in the crowded outdoor cafes. Bars abound and we are slowly ticking them off as we crawl between them.

Weather has picked up here in Bayona and have even treated myself to a couple of pairs of shorts to supplement my wardrobe. Cheap as the wine.

Stopped at the islands of Cies.  You would love ‘em. White sandy beaches and the walking is superb. A mixture  of Grizedale, the dunes at Birkdale and the Carribbean.

Hilly and scenic  forests and a bird sanctuary to boot. There is a camp site so I know a few  of you would love to tent it there. Clear blue waters in the anchorage under a delightful mountain. The sailing is good so far. A bit rolly at times but  I hang on as Dave shouts instructions. Think I am getting the hang of it but  still not overly sure what I am doing. Have met a couple of folk on boats  and one we seem to be following from anchorage to anchorage. Their boat is  much easier to climb on and off with the aid of a few bottles of the local  vino collapso as they have no rigging to hold onto.

We are enjoying the local prawns - much bigger than Morecambe Bay shrimps!

Will probably stay for  a couple of days to email and get the washing done. Then we say goodbye to  the Rias. Will be sad about that and head off to Portugal. Another language  to learn.

Wish you could be here to see all this with us.
